Namun, beberapa hal lain tentang bagaimana daftar ini disusun telah berubah selama satu dekade terakhir.
“… Tempat yang aman pada awalnya merupakan tempat yang sebagian besar bebas dari aktivitas teroris. Kemudian menjadi tempat yang aman dari wabah penyakit. Sekarang menjadi tempat di mana semua jenis orang dapat bergerak bebas tanpa diskriminasi atau pelecehan,” ujar pernyataan Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection, seperti dikutip Travel and Leisure, Jumat (6/1).
“Seiring dengan berkembangnya definisi mengenai destinasi yang aman, demikian pula dengan tempat-tempat teraman di dunia. Adakah tempat di mana orang dapat bergerak dengan bebas, tetap bebas penyakit, dan terlindung dari kejadian cuaca buruk?” lanjut pernyataan dari perusahaan itu.
Jawabannya ada. Peringkat pertama negara teraman di dunia diduduki Kanada, yang naik dari posisi keenam pada tahun 2023. Mengenai cara Kanada menjadi yang teratas, Berkshire Hathaway menyampaikan bahwa cuaca dingin dan kepadatan penduduk yang rendah menjadikannya destinasi perjalanan menjadi aman.
Kanada juga menempati peringkat pertama dalam hal keselamatan transportasi, kurangnya kejahatan dengan kekerasan, dan tindakan kesehatan, serta sebagai tempat teraman bagi perempuan. Namun, Berkshire Hathaway mencatat bahwa masih ada bencana alam yang perlu diingat ketika mengunjungi Kanada, salah satunya adalah kebakaran hutan dan lahan (karhutla).
“Banyaknya hutan di Kanada tampaknya terbakar, sehingga menurunkan kualitas udara di sebagian besar kota-kota besar di Kanada. Hal ini membuat perjalanan ke Kanada sulit bagi orang-orang yang menderita penyakit pernapasan,” bunyi pernyataan Berkshire Hathaway.
Swiss berada di peringkat kedua negara teraman di dunia pada tahun 2024. Swiss naik dari posisi kesembilan pada tahun 2023, karena sejarah tingkat kejahatan dan keamanannya yang rendah. Namun, perusahaan mencatat bahwa Kanada adalah tempat di mana bencana alam mungkin terjadi, termasuk longsoran salju dan tanah longsor.
